In our case, that means all students in the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology—namely, the degree programs in Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, and Technical Computer Science, as well as Industrial Engineering with a concentration in Electrical Power Engineering. That includes you!\nThe active members # The Fachschaftsrat (student council) handles the Fachschaft’s day-to-day affairs. It consists of up to 25 people, elected each semester after the general assembly of all students in Department 6. The council’s primary role is to represent students to the faculty and the university.\nOther responsibilities include advising students on all kinds of academic issues, supporting you first-year students, and organizing events such as the Uni Cup. To do this, the council is divided into several working groups, which are described on the following pages. If you’re interested, just stop by or send us an email. In addition, the student representatives on the Faculty Council are elected each year midway through the summer semester. Any student can run for these positions, though in practice the Fachschaftsrat is usually the only group to put forward candidates. The members of the Faculty Council, in turn, appoint the members of all the other committees and boards in our faculty, such as the Examination Board.\nThe rooms # “Fachschaft” also refers to the rooms on the third floor at Augustinerbach 2a, which the university provides to the Fachschaftsrat for its work. During the semester, you can drop by during office hours every day. The rooms are also where the Fachschaftsrat and its working groups hold their meetings.\nSo what does that mean in practice? If you stop by our office at Augustinerbach 2a, you can:\nget answers to urgent and not-so-urgent questions get advice on any issues related to your program print out student reports on oral exams bind loose stacks of paper with colorful spiral binding print course materials for 5 cents per sheet pick up FSET stickers or buy patches The Fachschaftsrat # The Fachschaftsrat usually meets on Monday evenings for a public meeting, and you’re very welcome to join us. We discuss the past week’s events, hear updates from the working groups, and share reports from faculty and university committees.\n","date":"21 October 2026","externalUrl":null,"permalink":"/en/council/","section":"FSET","summary":"","title":"About Us","type":"page"},{"content":"The purpose of the “Association of Alumni and Friends of the Electrical Engineering Student Council (AlFrEt) e.V.” is to support the Electrical Engineering and Information Technology Student Council. The association has been around since 2018 and is recognized as a nonprofit organization.\nWe’re always looking for new members who want to help us fulfill our association’s mission. It was set up by the student council to give students a place to work independently. Here, you can let your inner tinkerer run wild and bring your own projects to life! You’ll have access to a wide range of high-quality test equipment and tools, including 3D printers.\nWould you like to use ELAB without having to borrow a key in advance? Then join us for our open ELAB night! This semester, we’re open on site every Tuesday from 7 p.m. You can also get an orientation session while you’re there if you haven’t had one yet.\nIf you’d like an orientation session but can’t make it on Tuesday, just send us a quick message and we’ll arrange one during the week.\nStop by, and happy tinkering!\nYou can find ELAB here:\nopenstreetmap\nBuilding 4170\nRoom P3\nOtto-Blumenthal-Straße 2\n52074 Aachen\nPhone: +49 241 8020150\nFAQs # What can you do at ELAB?\nYou can work on and develop your own projects independently in small groups. Whether you’re setting up a small radio link using microcontrollers or getting your first hands-on experience with electronic components, it’s up to you. Once you’ve finished your circuit and want to customize an enclosure for it, you can do that at ELAB, too, using the lab’s own workbench.\nWhat can I use to build my circuits at ELAB?\nYou’ll have access to a variety of equipment, so you’ll be well prepared to get started with your projects. Available equipment includes power supplies, LCR meters, multimeters, oscilloscopes, and function generators. Everything is ready to use. You can work on your own perfboards or pre-made circuit boards, using the soldering irons available here, which come with a variety of tips. That means you can get started with either SMD components or conventional DIL packages.\nSounds great, but what can I build?\nIn principle, anything you like. You just have to stay within the power limits: no more than 60 V RMS and 10 A in any current path or loop.\nI’ve never soldered before. What should I do?\nYou can get your first soldering experience at ELAB. Practice makes perfect—and that’s exactly the idea at ELAB.\nWhat do I need to do to sign up?\nSince we live in Germany, where everything has to be in order, there are a few things to keep in mind. If you’re interested in ELAB and would like to sign up, please email us at elab@fset.rwth-aachen.de. We’ll arrange a time to meet. Please bring your BlueCard and an official photo ID. First, you’ll receive a safety briefing. After that, you can sign the user agreement, and we’ll set up your account.\nStill have questions? Stop by one of our office hours or email us at elab@fset.rwth-aachen.de.\nSounds great. Is it free?\nYes.
